Preparation for the IAM Test

Many people are concerned about "The Test", knowing what it involves, and how best to prepare for it. The best way to prepare for the Test is with one of the local IAM Groups (of which there are over 200 throughout the UK). With a Local IAM Group, you can prepare for the test alongside others, receiving guidance from Group members known as Observers, as well as participating in the social activities organised by those Groups.

If you want to contact one of these Groups go to the Group Directory Pages to find your nearest (or most convenient) one.

The IAM has produced two books to help candidates prepare for the IAM Advanced Driving Test. These two books, "How to be an Advanced Driver" and "How to be an Advanced Motorcyclist" (cover pictures below) describe in clear and easy to understand terms and pictures what is required to achieve the Advanced Driving or Riding Test standard (including a very useful section entitled "What the Examiner Looks for"). They are very much based on the principles of the Police books "Roadcraft", but explain exactly what is required for the IAM Test.
