IAM Skills Days are planned to attract drivers who wish to improve their road skills. The days are not intended to be free for all track days. The venue has been carefully chosen, not because it is a race circuit, but because it offers us a very controlled environment away from the usual two-way traffic, junctions, pedestrians and street furniture. There will be no racing, pace making or timing of any kind and only road legal cars will be allowed. Consequently, if you are looking to improve your road skills you will benefit from this type of training. If you are simply looking to put your car through its paces we recommend you try one of the many commercially available ‘track day’ packages available. The skills day may, however, give you a gentle introduction to circuit driving that may whet your appetite to try a serious track day.
Drivers will work in pairs with a dedicated instructor for the duration of the event. The instructors will deliver a set of core competencies for driver development. To achieve this effectively we shall deliver two sessions during the day – morning and afternoon. The precise details are given below. It is the ideal package for drivers who have never previously driven at this type of venue and offers ongoing improvement opportunities. Drivers will use the car they use on a daily basis. It doesn’t require a new sports car to get the best from the event.
The division into morning and afternoon sessions gives continuity of training and keeps you involved. The driving is intensive and demands complete concentration, so the drivers will drive for 15 minutes and then rest themselves and the car for 15 minutes. There will be a 30 minute break mid- session in the morning and afternoon to rest the instructors.
You will be required to sign a disclaimer before being allowed to participate. This is normal practice and part of the regulations imposed by the circuit officials.
The cost of the sessions, morning or afternoon, is £95. In the event that the day is oversubscribed you will be noted on a reserve list and either offered a place should a cancellation be made, or offered a place on a subsequent event.
Should you decide to take part in the Skills Day, you can book and pay on line by logging into the IAM website www.iam.org.uk and click onto Car Driver then onto car events diary.
Joining instructions will be sent to you by e-mail.
Should you need to cancel your place, we will endeavour to find a replacement from the reserve list and give you a credit note to attend a future day. It must be pointed out that should you cancel shortly before the event this may not be possible, although we will always do the best we can to accommodate your needs. The events are, however, designed to run very close to break even rather than at a profit, so we can guarantee neither a credit note nor a future place.

Entry is open to all IAM members, full, associates and non members. Acceptance to the event will be on a first come first served basis. We will make every attempt to accommodate your preference for morning or afternoon but cannot guarantee your choice. If you can only attend only one particular session, please make this clear on your application form.
Teesside Autodrome is located on South Bank Road, Middlesbrough, TS6 6XH. Detailed information can be found on the web at www.teessideautodrome.co.uk the event will use the outer perimeter circuit shown on the plan on the website.

The afternoon session will register between 1.00 pm and 1.30 pm for briefing at 1.30 pm. Driving will be from 2.00 pm until 5.30 pm with a 30 minute break. Again, cars must be moved to the main car park following the session.

It is your responsibility to ensure that
Insurance is your responsibility. Insurance companies will not normally cover track days because of the lack of control over racing, pace making or speed. However, this is a training event, and as such insurance may be available. You should contact you insurers. Members covered through the IAM Surety scheme can obtain cover on application to Adelaide who have agreed to offer cover for IAM Skills Days
Special Driving Rules
The special provisions as to driving rules will be fully explained at the pre event briefing. Overtaking will only be allowed on certain parts of circuit.
Drivers should note that fuel is NOT available at Teesside Autopark. It is strongly recommended that you start the event with a full tank as you are likely to cover more distance than you may think during your day at a more serious fuel consumption than you may expect.
You will be expected to drive subject to the structured instruction and guidance of your instructor, but this certainly does not mean you be unable to drive enthusiastically.
Look forward to a most enjoyable and fulfilling driving experience.
