Being an advanced driver is a journey of continuous learning. One of the key milestones on that journey is passing the IAM’s internationally recognised Advanced Driving Test.
While membership of the IAM is reserved for drivers and riders who have passed the Advanced Test, we recognise that many drivers participating on IAM Fleet training courses, may wish to play an active role in improving and promoting road safety – and share some of the benefits of IAM membership – without first passing the Test.
To these drivers, we now extend the opportunity to register as Associates of the IAM.
IAM Fleet is the not-for-profit commercial division of the IAM. All profits made by IAM Fleet are re-invested in road safety through the IAM.
As an IAM Associate you can enjoy a wide range of discounts and other advantages
These include discounts on everything from breakdown assistance and windscreen replacement to tyres, exhausts and brakes; from car hire, hotels and airport parking to financial services, and even car purchase.
There are special deals, too, on a range of books, road atlases and maps, as well as a 10% discount on selected IAM Fleet training programmes, such as our popular ‘Towing’ and ‘Skid Control’ courses.
As an IAM Associate, you can also chose from an exclusive range of IAM gift tokens and vouchers that make ideal presents for family members and friends.
And to help you keep up with the latest driving-related issues and inform you about special IAM events and offers, you’ll also receive regular issues of our Advanced Driving magazine.
And you’ll be given access to the IAM Driver Information Service enabling you to email driving-related questions to our panel of experts.

During the year, for example, the IAM holds several Activity Days. Offered to IAM Members and Associates at specially negotiated rates, these popular and sometimes challenging events are a great opportunity to learn new techniques – on and off-road – and share your passion for driving and riding with fellow enthusiasts. There’s even a free-to-enter quarterly draw with fabulous prizes.

We invite you to continue your professional development by registering as an IAM Associate
As a participant on an IAM Fleet training programme, you are invited to register as an IAM Associate for one year, absolutely free of charge. In subsequent years, the annual registration renewal fee is just £18.
To enrol, simply complete the attached registration form and return it by email – or print it out and then return it by mail, or hand it to your trainer.
Alternatively, a form will be available from your trainer on completion of your course – or you can register online now at www.iam.org.uk.
Your Associate’s welcome pack will be despatched shortly after we receive your completed form.
In due course, you may choose to prepare for the Advanced Driving Test and qualify for membership of the IAM
As an IAM Associate, you can prepare for the Test....
1. Via a Skill for Life Programme
The classic way to prepare for the Advanced Test is with the support of a local IAM Group consisting entirely of unpaid volunteers with a passion for sharing their expertise.
2. Via Fast Track – the quickest route to the Advanced Driving Test
If time is short, Fast Track – an intensive driver training course designed to fit in with busy lifestyles – can be taken over two half-days. Training is delivered by a qualified instructor, and is largely on-road, so Fast Track can usually take place at a location convenient for you.
If you enrol on either of these courses as an Associate, you will receive a discount on the cost of your course.
Encouraging better driving on our roads Established in 1956, the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) is the UK’s leading road safety charity dedicated to raising driving standards and reducing the number of collisions that occur on our roads. We do this in a number of ways… By playing a major role in the development and promotion of new road safety ideas. By influencing policy at all levels of government. And through our Skill for Life programme which enables drivers and riders to prepare for the IAM’s Advanced Driving and Advanced Motorcycling tests.
