How can the Group help me?

The aims of the Group are those of the Institute of Advanced Motorists namely to improve the standard of driving, the advancement of road safety, and to prepare candidates for the Institute Advanced Driving Test. The Group offers the opportunity of preparing for the Test on a one to one basis with an Observer (a volunteer group member who has passed the Advanced Test and who has received further training) or Sunday Morning Sessions where there may be more than one Associate in the car. The group also offers “DriveCheck” which is for drivers who feel that they may not wish to commit to the Test Programme but who would like an assessment of their driving skills.

How does the Group operate?

It is hoped that Associates would be test ready after six runs. These runs are FREE. The one to one runs are in your car and at a time that is convenient to both you and the Observer. This may be on any day of the week. The Associate uses their own car. At the end of each run, a thorough debrief is given and comments entered in a record card. The Advanced Driving Test is conducted on all kinds of road and lasts approximately an hour and a half.

With DriveCheck, the drive lasts approximately forty minutes and is followed a debrief and the candidate is given a written report.

The Group does not meet socially at the moment, our AGM is in December and is followed by a Social Event. Should there be sufficient interest, we can organise a skid pan event or an external visit in the summer.
