6. A Taxing Debate

TA Taxing Debatehe Road Pricing petition may be closed, but another car-related one is very much alive, and will be until January 10, 2008. It concerns the cut-off date for the exemption of Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). This currently stands at January 1, 1973 – the old system of a rolling 25-year exemption having been scrapped in 1997. Classic car owner Rob Davis is now asking for the cut off date to be moved forward by 10 years. As we closed for press, 1,999 enthusiasts had added their names to the list.

So, if you believe all pre ’83 vehicles should be exempt from VED (I do – Ed!), then log on to www.petitions.pm.gov.uk and make your feelings felt.
