Many people are concerned about "The Test", knowing what it involves, and how best to prepare for it.
With the right preparation, advanced driving is not as difficult as you might suppose; it is within the reach of most motorists. But, as with any form of further education and skills training, it's up to the individual to get the most from the programme, which can often be completed within three months.
We strongly recommend that you study "How to be an Advanced Driver" or "Pass your Advanced Motorcycling Test" before actually sitting the test. They describe in clear and easy to understand terms and pictures what is required to achieve the Advanced Driving or Motorcycling Test standard (including a very useful section entitled "What the Examiner Looks for").
They are very much based on the principles of the Police books "Roadcraft", but explain exactly what is required for the IAM Test.
