Members' Driving and Riding Assessments

The IAM Driving/Riding Assessment is only available to current IAM members. It is an opportunity for members to check that they are still at the advanced standad.

The IAM Driving/Riding Assessment comprises:-

  • A short briefing
  • A period of driving/riding by the member - assessed by the examiner
  • A further period of driving/riding by the member - with open discussion about it, (not instruction)
  • A full debrief

The IAM Driving/Riding Assessment is not a test. Members undertaking it will not be considered to have either 'passed' or 'failed' and the result will not have any effect on your IAM membership.

Minor errors or omissions during the Driving/Riding Assessment, which do not compromise safety, will be treated as part of the beneficial learning experience. At the conclusion of the assessment the examiner will give the necessary advice and/or make appropriate recommendations to encourage improvement.

In all cases, the examiner will give a comprehensive verbal debrief about the strengths and weaknesses of the member's driving/riding.

Members who undertake and complete an Driving/Riding Assessment will receive a Certificate showing the date on which the assessment was undertaken.In additiona high score in an assessment will qualify the member for our F1RST Register.
