Membership of the IAM is usually open only to drivers and riders who have passed the IAM's Advanced Driving or Motorcycling Tests, although there are some exemptions to this.
Police officers
As a serving or retired police officer you are uniquely placed to make a valuable contribution to road safety, not only in your official capacity, but by supporting the IAM's work through membership. Membership of the IAM is usually only offered to applicants who have passed the IAM Advanced Driving Test. However, since this test is based on the police system of car control, police officers holding one or more of the qualifications listed below are eligible for full membership of the IAM without further testing:
Join today! All you have to do is complete and return the application form (click here for the application form) with a copy of your certificate(s) to the IAM with your first year's membership fee of just £33 (or £30.50 if you pay by direct debit).
Additional exemptions
If you are the holder of one or more of the qualifications listed below you are eligible to become a member of the IAM without the need to take the test. As the holder of such a qualification, you are in a position to make a valuable contribution to road safety by supporting, through membership, the IAM's work of educating motorists and motorcyclists to drive and ride better.
Qualifications gaining exemption:
All you have to do is to complete and return the form (click here for the application form) along with a copy of your certificate(s) to the IAM.
In addition, the special driving/riding qualification that you already hold enables you to get more directly involved with our work by becoming an IAM group observer.
The cost of IAM membership is currently £33.00 (£30.50 if you pay by Direct Debit or online). Prices effective 1st April 2012
