Fraser Quin, EDAM, had this to say.

I passed my Advanced Test in October of 2011 after having ridden for some 14 years. I have previously ridden in Europe and cover approximately 7000-10000 miles a year, but on starting my course of observed rides I did actually feel like a bit of a novice.
My observer Gordon Henderson put me at ease straight away. He was patient, answered my stupid questions without making me feel like an idiot and had a very clear and direct way of passing on his knowledge of riding. Additionally he’s a superb rider, which gives him considerable credibility in dealing with already “experienced” riders.
Through the IAM System (IPSGA) I am now a smoother, safer, faster rider. The whole experience for me has been nothing but a long list of positives and is probably the best single item I have spent money on riding a motorcycle.

Many thanks to Gordon and the rest of the EDAM group.

Peter Greenwood had this to say about his experience with Skill for Life.

I have been a biker on and off for about 40 years but took it up more seriously when I reached my mid fifties. I was aware that when I went out I would have good and bad days with really satisfying rides only fairly rarely. I sometimes came back feeling lucky or even angry after a near miss and sometimes guilty if I had taken a few liberties or misjudged something and I was used to riding at really big speeds on my GSXR 1000. I am convinced now that I was an accident waiting to happen and I think that there are a lot of other bikers in the same position, sadly the statistics confirm it. I already knew Terry Towler, my IAM trainer, who persuaded me to take the Skills for Life training and it was excellent, sometime tiring but always enjoyable. I now have good rides pretty well all of the time, my confidence has grown and I now feel properly in control and it really makes all the difference. I cant think of any biker who wouldnt benefit from this very cost effective training and if it racks up the fun of their ride like it has mine, its actually priceless!

Russell Brand had this to say about the IAM experience

I have been riding motorbikes since 1982 in all their various forms from road and track to trails and motocross, from 50cc to 1400cc and thought I had a fairly good knowledge of motorcycles until the Skills for Life course. After riding on the roads with a group of mates for the past few years and seeing the amount of near misses (and statistics waiting to happen) I decided that this year I would undertake as much training as posible to improve not only my skill set but also my confidence. The IAM Skills for Life was one of these training programs that was always on my list but never got around to, until now. I am very glad that I did!

The whole course was a revelation and I would highly recommend it to anyonewho wants towhip their road riding skills into shape. As a predominately track rider I take corners in a different way whilst on track to that taken on the road and taught by the IAM and this has proved to be invaluable in making me a more confident, safer and certainly much smoother rider and I cannot thank David Gillan, my Observer enough for his time, instruction and most of all patience in preparing me for the test. Without a shadow of doubt it was challenging for David to get me out of the trackday mindset of cornering and into the IAM way but to his credit he persisted and the feedback from him was second to none. It was David's preseverence that undoubtly raised my game to test standard which I am pleased to say I passed on 18/07/10, under the watchful eye of examiner Dougie Jamieson.

I passed my advanced test just 8 days after celebrating my 70th birthday. The training was very worthwhile, and I would encourage anyone, whatever their age or type of bike, to sign up.

Obviously, the main benefit is that you will become a better, safer, more confident rider, but it's also possible to achieve better/cheaper insurance too. I personally saved a whopping 25% on my insurance premium after passing my advanced test. On top of the cash saving, business insurance was included in the new premium and my excess dropped from 500 to 250. Icalled a few different companies but settled with IAM's own insurance company - IAM Surety.'
I know that this may not work for everyone, but it really worked for me!

Jon Moreau had this to say

I have been riding motorcycles for over 30 years and have held a motorcycle licence for over 28, riding continuously all that time. I approached the KAMG (Kent group) /IAM after many years of saying to myself I really should do this and am pleased to say that it was one of the best decisions of my motorcycling career.

The KAMG method of pairing a suitable observer with an associate was, in my case, an extremely enjoyable and thought provoking method of teaching. As a fellow biker I respected my observers viewpoint and can confidently say that the way he approached our lessons was the key to my now more enlightened riding. Having successfully completed my test, I also realised that there was much more I can learn to improve my riding.

The IAM/KAMG associate training programme taught me to ride in a safe, but very progressive manner and as a result of my positive experience I will not only be recommending the IAM to my friends but will also seek to be as active as time allows to continue to develop my riding skills and those of other bikers.

Martin Broughton, London Advanced Motorcyclists (LAM) had this to say

My pre-conceived idea of a pipe smoking, cardigan wearing old mans club was so, so, so wrong. I went out on my assessment ride, with a policeman over my shoulder who promptly told me to get a move on, on your bike (Yamaha R1) you should be able to just ping past those cars. An eye opener indeed, & not a leather elbow patch or pipe in sight!

However good you think you are, you will learn some more. Some of the best motorcyclists I know are giving up their free time to make you better, the system is the key.

Alison Hussey had this to say

I am very proud of my own achievements and cant believe the pleasure and sense of achievement returning to biking, joiningTVAM and passing my advanced testhas bought to my life.

Ken Crich- of Nottingham Advanced Motorcyclists had this to say

The Skill for Life course was recommended to me by a friend who had taken the course. I rang one evening, left a message and received a call the very next day and received all the information I needed for the next step and felt encouraged by the enthusiastic tone of the call.

The 121 training was excellent and I enjoyed each session. The instruction was clear and I knew exactly what was expected of me to demonstrate the skills of an advanced rider. The delivery of the 121 training could not have been made easier for me.

I have felt that my riding has improved further throughout summer and is better the more I ride. The course was very enjoyable and worth every penny not to mention the increased enjoyment of riding to date.

Also I know that one accident has been prevented by using the skills learned from my Skill for Life course, and strongly believe thatother accidents haven't happened because of it. Cost of an accident, even a minor one being preventedcan make up for the money spent on the course, the prevention of a serious one - priceless.
