IAM supports the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020

Governments, international agencies, civil society organizations and private companies from more than 100 countries have launched the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020. From Tanzania to Sri Lanka and from Namibia to Mexico, presidents and prime ministers are expressing their commitment and launching national plans for the Decade.

In the UK, the official launch took place in Westminster on Wednesday May 11.

The IAM fully supports the UN Decade of Action and is working to disseminate the principles of advanced driving around the world. As part of our commitment to the campaign we pledge to engage with 220,000 new drivers and riders in the UK by 2020.

In every country, human error will remain the most difficult problem to solve, but driver education holds the solution and must be an ongoing priority in international development long after new roads and new vehicles have arrived.

The growth of the internet across the globe offers a fantastic new avenue to spread knowledge on the common risk factors and how to deal with them. The IAM will work to develop its existing on line tools for a wider international audience to help the UN reach its road safety goals and reduce the daily waste of young lives.
