Our members

When you pass your advanced course, you’ll be invited to become a full member of the IAM. Or, if you hold a recognised driving or riding qualification you may qualify for membership by invitation.

Our membership of around 100,000 includes like-minded people from across the UK. Whether you want to improve your driving and riding skills, enjoy the fun of our local groups, or take a road trip with our rider clubs, IAM RoadSmart is about becoming a better, more considerate road user.

When you join you can take advantage of the acclaimed IAM Surety insurance scheme, you'll receive an annual subscription to our members' magazine 'RoadSmart' among other benefits. Riders will receive 15% off orders at bikestop.co.uk

You can also develop your skills to become an Observer or Examiner and help others to achieve advanced status.

Am I already qualified to become a member?

IAM members are some of the most skilled drivers and riders on our roads. We also recognise that some drivers and riders have already proved their ability, perhaps as a police, fire or ambulance driver.
To encourage professional drivers to join us and take advantage of the benefits of being an IAM member, we have developed a shorter route to membership, which does not require you to take our Advanced Test. We call it membership by exemption. To find out more information, please click here.

Could you inspire others?

IAM RoadSmart wants to put you in the driving seat to help others learn from your skills. We’re looking for Observers and Examiners to join us and inspire better riders and drivers. To find out more, please click become an observeror become an examiner.
